Decorating with Oak…

Decorating with Oak…

Oak has long been a firm favourite in many homes.

As well as being extremely strong and durable, it’s been a popular choice for both items of furniture and joinery items throughout the house including balustrades, skirting, architrave and internal doors.

This timeless material will blend into so many chosen colour schemes. From Limed Oak and Natural Oak, with an element of amber colouration, through to Oak that has been reclaimed and is therefore inherently darker, the commonality between all Oak is its characteristic, endearing grain.

Being of such a hardwearing material, it is ideal for any items in your home that are likely to encounter traffic such as internal doors. Whether your internal doors are more conventional or of ledge and brace construction, Oak internal doors will stand the test of time.

Often used in kitchens to break up a run of units or indeed as a contrasting worktop in a painted kitchen, introducing Oak will add charm into your kitchen.

If space permits in your kitchen, why not consider having a dedicated breakfast bar area, with either feature Oak worktop or even Oak bar stools?

If you want to create a focal point in your living room why not fit a feature Oak mantle shelf. The rustic looks of Oak make it an ideal choice, especially with a wood or multi-fuel burner.

Better still, make the overall wall the focal point and use timber wall panelling to clad it entirely.

This will not only make the room come alive, but the beauty of the wood can be admired from a distance, as can the grain. Much like appreciating artwork in a gallery, the further back you stand, you more you can take in.

Equally, most of us aren’t lucky enough to live in a property with original exposed Oak trusses, but you can achieve a similar feel and fit real wood planks to the ceiling.

The possibilities of PLAANK wood panelling are endless. By thinking ‘outside the box’ you could even choose to restore an old set of drawers? Simply paint the frame of the drawers, attach wood panelling to the frontages and fit new handles… hey presto, a new shabby chic set of drawers!

Wood, and in particular Oak is a beautiful material to consider for your home. Here at PLAANK we would love to see how you have used our products. Simply email hello@plaank.com with some photos – who knows, you may even be our next case study.
